Scoping Summary

A HUGE thank you to everyone who gave us their thoughts, ideas, and suggestions through the 2025 FLEC Scoping survey and sessions.

Our survery closed at the end of March 2025 and we have been reviewing, assessing and planning.

We’re pleased to share the results and our 2025-2026 plans with you!

We asked our community “Why and how are you passionate about the environment?“

Many of the responses included the words below (the larger the word, the more often it was written):

This word cloud showed how essential it is to our community to protect our home - our local special beautiful environment.

We also wanted to get an idea of which topics and themes you wanted us to focus on. The three top themes were:

We wanted to let you know we read through every suggestion, workshopped them as a committee and our volunteers, and assessed where we had capacity to enact some changes and new projects!

Below are some exciting changes we will implement over the 25-26 year:

1.      Focus on Citizen Science events: including iNaturalist training, learning how to photograph nature for ourselves and ID, bird and plant walks and more!

2.      More landcare loan equipment: adding to our loan system to include some landcare equipment for Friends Of groups to borrow to help their amazing conservation efforts.

3.      Participate in the New Years Eve pageant along with the wonderful folks at Yarnauwi Farm.

4.      Move to a model of reduce and reuse before recycle: with a focus on reduce plastic options, reusing materials ideas and events, and therefore removing most of our centre recycling (and working with the community on alternatives).

FLEC is only funded for part-time operation with 20 hours of paid staff time per week together with a number of locals who are our dedicated volunteers. While this limits our ability to get involved with all of the ideas that people suggested, there were many other amazing ideas which we would love to enact if you’re able to help us!

Some key suggestions we need some helpers (and some funding) for are:

·        Litter picking loan gear project

·        School education programs and events

·        Environmental advocacy group and projects

We welcome any other ideas and projects we can help you enact for our environment!
